This toolkit has been designed to help individuals and groups across Maine take action in their communities to support the Pine Tree Amendment.
A Municipal Resolution is a law or statute passed to officially declare the wishes and opinion of a municipal body. A Municipal Resolution can be passed declaring support for the Pine Tree Amendment to represent public support in an official manner. Passing Municipal Resolutions across the state would show Maine’s legislative bodies that the people of Maine support the Pine Tree Amendment.
Municipal Resolutions are comprised of preambular and operative clauses. Preambulatory clauses are clauses that give background information on the topic of the resolution and explain why the municipal body is passing the resolution. Preambulatory clauses can include recent events pertaining to the issue(in the case of the Pine Tree Amendment, you could discuss recent environmental impacts that occurred in Maine or specifically in your area) and discuss the issues that the resolution would solve.
